Bark: Three Tree Barks

Another creative attempt at shooting tree bark. Critiques are always welcome!

TJ Roadside Memorial

As I mentioned on an earlier "Roadside Memorial", I plan on photographing these when I come upon them. I am not sure why, but they just give me pause to think. Perhaps about life, loss and pain. I find these such sad memorials to someone's loved one.

I would like to think I wouldn't be taking too many of this type of photo, but unfortunately I already know where several others are.

Bleeding Rust

Wow!  How awesome is this?! "Rust Blood" or "Bleeding Rust", either way it makes (for me) a very cool photograph. I love all of these earth tone colors working together, out in a natural environment.

I hope you're not tiring of my rust photos!

A Feather of Division

I find this to be an interesting feather because of it's coloring. I mean, come on. Half white and half black? I have found plenty of "lost feathers" in my poking around and even a few black and white ones, but never one so dramatically divided. I can't help but wonder what bird this feather came off of. It's perplexing.

I'm not going to lose any sleep over it though.  :-)

A Bucket of Skins

A beautiful bucket of colorful tomato skins. The rest of the tomatoes were in the process of getting canned.

Ohio Redwoods

What do ya get when you paint a bunch of lumber red and then toss them out on the trash pile?

Ohio Redwoods. Bet you never knew Ohio had Redwoods, did ya?

Rusty Bottom

Woo Hoo!  More rust! LOL!

Once again; colors, texture, design. I really like the frothy looking white at the top of this piece. By the way, this is the bottom of a rusty old wheelbarrow.

A Simple Rope

Simply a rope tied to the side of a red building. Makes a pretty strong image, don't you think?

Carved Rooster

Okay, I'm guilty. I didn't have a photo for today so I used another one that I had taken yesterday, the same day as the metal rooster. This big bird had been carved out of the trunk of a dead tree and it stands as the logo for a business called "The Glass Rooster" near Sunbury, Ohio. They teach canning and cooking.

Artful Rooster

I found this metal rooster an awesome work of art. Can you name some of the items used to create it?

Old Stone Wheel

I just couldn't resist getting down and shooting this old stone wheel. I am not sure if it was a small grist wheel or a honing stone to sharpen axes, plow blades, etc. Either way, it makes for a pleasing photo as it sits amongst the red and green colors.

Metal Clasp

Here's just a strong, interesting composition. I love the colors and mix of elements in this shot.

Bark: Ash Bark

I "think" this is an Ash Tree. Ash Trees are in trouble here in the midwest. My neighbor had hers taken down this year and the two in my back yard may have a year or two before they succumb to the chain saw. Perhaps the dead leaf on this tree is apropos and a sign of the inevitable.

Bark: Falling Bark

This old tree looks a bit sad as it slowly loses it's bark to the insects and elements.

Bark: Leaf Bark

I converted this photo over to black and white. I had played around with it for awhile in color and even though I liked the bright green leaves, it just seemed to look best as black and white.

Bark: Shadow Bark

Another one from my "Bark" series. I liked how the shadows played all over this tree's bark. I converted it over to a black and white photo.

Bark: Decaying Bark

As mentioned earlier, here is another photo from my bark assignments. This is one of decaying bark, slowly but surely rotting away.

Old Time Cane Poles

You just never know what you're going to find in the rafters of an old barn. These are old cane poles. I got a kick out of the "cork" bobber. That's how they were back then. Not the brightly colored plastic ones people use today.

Rusty Fence Hinge

Hey.  You know me by now. I just can't resist weathered wood and rusted metal.

Future Road Kill?

I came across this fawn today, feeding along side Africa Road around 11:00 am. I actually pulled over, grabbed my camera and took a few shots before stopping traffic so that I could "shoosh" her back up over the hill and into tall grass. At times, she actually acted like she wanted me to pet her!

Queen Anne's Fence

I love the way this delicate Queen Anne's Lace is poking through the old weathered fence, casting it's shadowed image along the bottom rail.  Nice!

Bark: Shagbark Hickory

One of my self-assigned themes, to try and keep the creative juices flowing, is to take photos of tree bark. It's not as easy as I thought it would be. This is the Shagbark Hickory tree.

Roadside Memorial: Dina

All of us have driven by one of these I am sure. They are always a bit touching to me, yet eerily strange as well. Each one brings to mind numerous questions, all left unanswered. I plan on photographing more of these in the days to come.

Silo in Red

I really liked this old red silo. All of the colors were just perfect for this shot.
There's something intriguing to me about farm silos. So much so, I am thinking of looking for and shooting more of them. Some are beautifully painted and some are beautifully deteriorating. Know what I mean?

Stone Faced

Art is what you make it, and this art was made by a woman named Susie over near Sunbury. She said at one time the head had more hair. I kind of like it just as it is.

Rustic Flowers

Okay.. even before you say something I'll admit that this photo was taken the same day as the stained glass photo. In fact, it's the very same window only from the outside and "tweaked" a bit for color and contrast.  I like it!

Stained Glass Flower

This is a stained glass window looking from the inside to the outside. I liked the fact that there is a stained glass flower at the top, and real flowers on the bottom, outside. For me it makes an interesting composition.

Give Peace a Chance

Give peace a chance. Piece by piece by piece. I found this tiled bra quite interesting.  And, if you couldn't tell, it's on a mannequin.

Hummer Back

When all else fails, I can usually count on the good ol' hummingbirds to fill a day's photo shoot. This one sat still long enough for an interesting backside shot.  :-)

Don't Worry

Even down by the river and under an overpass, encouragement can be found! Not the prettiest graffiti I've seen, but still interesting and besides, it made me smile.  :-)

Burgundy Pool

I took this photo using a 75-300 zoom lens. That pretty burgundy pool you're seeing in the water is actually a clump of some kind of berries that were hanging in the foreground, severely out of focus. Kind of a cool accidental effect! :-)
