The 365 Dunk

We drove up to Marion this afternoon to visit a while with my momma.  As mommas usually do, she had a bag of cookies sitting on the kitchen table.  I made this my photo of the day.
Take a close look at the cookie and you'll understand why.  Pretty apropos, don't you think?

Nekrassoff Copper

Another cold, ugly gray day on Ohio and I am really tired of it. I can deal with the cold. It's the grayness that bums me out. So I was relegated to shooting indoors again today.  Not sure there is much more I can photograph in this house!

Anyway, here is a photo of Barbara's Nekrassoff Copper Dish.

Purple Skies at Alum

Been a rough day. I think I have a sinus infection. As such, not feeling creative at all.  So, on my way home I was wondering what photo I'd have to try and think up for today's posting.  And then I seen the sunset.  Yep. ANOTHER sunset.  But this sunset was awesome. It had a huge red ball of a sun with just a faint wisp of a cloud zig-zagging through it.

"Cool!" I thought.  It was only 4 minutes to the entrance of Alum Creek State Park where I could pull into and take a few photos of this beautiful, setting sun in all her glory.

Do you see it?  No?  I seen it. I seen it quickly get eaten up by clouds as I pulled over and got out of the car.  So, this is what I have for today.  That's all they is and they is no mo'.

My Rings

Rings.  Silver rings.  Not just silver tone rings, sterling silver ones.  I love buying and wearing Sterling Silver Rings, especially if they happen to have turquoise in them.

Here are my rings.  I've worn them all and no, not all at the same time although I have to admit I have tried.  I am usually wearing three rings at any one time but every now and then I'll have four on.  Of course one of them is my wedding ring, which is not in the photo.  It's silver as well but only in color as it's actually White Gold.

A few of these rings have fond memories so strong that I'll never get rid of them.

I enjoy things like that.

Simplistic Design

Not a whole lot to say about this photo. The simple form of the torchiere with the cast shadow and the soft hues lends to a simplistic yet somewhat elegant design.  I like it.

Red On Pavement

While out making sales calls today, I stepped over this red plastic thing lying on the wet pavement of a parking lot.  When I say I "stepped over" that's pretty literal.  This shot was taken with the car door open and me shooting from the driver's seat.  Not only do I love the contrast of colors, but also the texture contrast as well.

Galaxy Mine

Went out into the winter world today and discovered an all new one.  I created this piece at the Alum Creek Spillway.  It's a combination of frozen river bottom and kicked snow.  I felt it looked like a Galaxy so I made it mine.  LOL

Paint Brush Pots

We had fresh snow here in Ohio last night and I woke up to an amazingly bright sunny day.  Perfect for outdoor winter photos!  Unfortunately, I was way to busy WORKING to be able to take the time and be creative in our winter wonderland.

So I thought I'd share another creative side of myself; My artist brushes that I keep in ceramic pots along the edge of the drawing table.  The pots on both ends are ones that I made.

Today I am showing 2 photos.  As this is a photo of artist brushes, I was curious as to what it may look like as an actual painting so, in my program Elements 6, I converted it over to a dry brush painting and that is shown in the last picture.  It pretty much looks the same here in the thumbnails, so click on it to enlarge and you'll see the difference.

The Photo as taken.

The Photo as a Painting.

Snowy Genoa Barn

Funny.  I've driven past this old barn countless times between Westerville and Galena but had never really taken any notice of it.  I suppose my slower speed and careful driving due to the snowfall may have had something to do with seeing it today.  I actually drove beyond it before I made up my mind to snap a photo.  So, I turned around and went past it again, turned around once more so that it was on my right side, pulled over and with flashers flashing, got out and took two quick photos.

1964 1/2 Mustang Convertible

Often time, it's a simple act that can turn a tough, stressful day on end.  So it was for me today.  After hours of knocking on doors and talking advertising to a variety of clients, I returned to my office and found this model car sitting on my keyboard.

It seems that while I was out on my rounds, my son stopped by with this seemingly small gift of a model car.  Not just any ol' car model.  No, this is a model of a Green 1964 1/2 Mustang Convertible. This is a model of my very first car.

I was touched today in two ways.  First with fond memories of that classic car that I drove around in during my senior year at Harding and secondly with the realization that my son stopped what he was doing and thought of his dad.  While busy with his own life and the responsibilities that it has for him, he remembered me.  That in itself means very very much to me.

Thanks, son.

Wet January Day

Today we had a nice reprieve from Old Man Winter.  Even though it pretty much rained and drizzled all day long, I didn't mind one bit.  The temperature was relatively mild and there wasn't any freezing ice or snow.  I didn't even mind having to wipe my glasses dry every time I got in and out of the car!

My New Crocheted Hat!

Well, as you know from an earlier posting, my wife Barbara was in the process of crocheting me a new winter hat, one with ear flaps.  I made the statement in that posting that I doubt if any of you would ever see me wear it.  Then a friend wrote and DARED me to post a photo of me wearing my new hat and well, a dare's a dare and I figured why the heck not.  Sooo.. here I am, wearing the new hat Barbara made for me. It really IS a nice hat and I am totally cool with how it turned out!  Hope you like it as well.

Scenic Inniswoods Sky

A cold winter's walk through Inniswoods Metro Garden in Westerville, Ohio brought only a few photo opps.  We got there a bit late and what had been a very sunny day was fast becoming an overcast, gray one.  Looking up for the sun, we noticed these awesome looking evening clouds and so I stepped back and snapped three photos; Left, Middle and Right.  Using Photoshop Elements, I created the Panoramic view below.

Gonder Scroll Vase

Spent most of my day stressing over a leaky bathtub faucet.  Bought the parts, assembled and then reassembled them and still a leaky faucet.  I hate plumbing.  But.. I do love Gonder Pottery and that is what I have chosen for today.  This is Gonder Ceramic Arts #862 Scroll Vase in Red Flambe glaze.  Gonder Pottery is a little known Ohio Pottery company from Zanesville and was in operation from 1941 to 1957.

AEP Campsite, Fall '09

Well, I installed my new Photoshop Elements 6 this evening and the first project I attempted was a Panorama Weld.  I had taken a series of three photos at a camp site that we stayed at and used Element 6 to weld them into one Panoramic photo.  I think it turned out pretty cool!

Hands of Love

My wife Barbara relaxes in the evening by crocheting.  During that time, she has made me 2 pairs of wool socks that keep my feet nice and warm around the house, a pair of wool fingerless gloves that work great when taking photos in the cold and she's even made us some coozies for our drinks.  Here, she is crocheting me a new winter hat that I am looking forward to wearing when out shooting photos or hiking the winter woods. I seriously doubt that any of you will ever see this hat on my head though.  It has ear flaps.  :-)

Sunbury Sky

Often times photography is all about being in the right place at the right time.

Today I was on my way to see a client over near Sunbury, Ohio when the sun broke through and revealed an awesome looking snowstorm on the move.  I kept wondering how I was going to get a decent photo of it and realized I was going to have to get off the main road. I hung a right and there to my left were these stark trees against some really cool clouds.

Several photos taken.  One for you to view.  Today is complete.  I didn't even have to get out of the car!

Snowy Back Steps

Several inches of snow fell today.  I shoveled the front walks and driveway, but left the backs steps untouched.  This is a color photo.  I tried converting it over to a Black and White image but there wasn't any change at all.  Weird.

Calm Before The Storm

I worked a little over this evening and got a late start home.  As I drove, my mind was on tomorrow and the impending snow (2 - 5 inches) that we're suppose to be getting.  Traveling down Africa Road, my usual route home, I looked at this fantastic winter sunset and was amazed at it's beauty and how it gave a calming effect to the end of my day in sales and the thoughts of tomorrow's winter storm.  Thus the title.

Fresh Baked Bread

I tell ya, there isn't hardly anything better on a cold winter's day than the aroma of fresh baked bread filling the house.  My wife Barbara usually makes several loaves about twice a month. Not only do we know that the ingredients are all natural and pure, we also know that home made bread is a hundred times more flavorful than store bought.  Yep, she's my regular little "Barbie Crocker"!  :-)

Duck Tracks

Project 365 is suppose to be little snippets of a point in time during each day of my life.  My friend and coworker Angie, says she can go back to every photo that she took in her last year's project and know the who/when/why/where/what of each one.

So this photo that I have chosen today is a record of sorts of my and Barbara's walk along the creek behind our house.  Barbara spied these tracks on the other side of the creek and thought they'd make an interesting photo.  So, I took several and she was right.  Interesting.

An Alum Winter

Another gray dreary day in Ohio.  My problem with doing a daily photo is simply time.  At this time of year the days are so short.  Too short for my liking that's for sure. Anyway, by the time I leave the office at a little after 5pm, with no sun out the darkness sets in quickly.

It makes for a very cold photo.

A Winter Tuft

Wow.  It was a rough day to take photos.  Solid, flat gray skies with a light sprinkling of snow flurries. Everything looked so cold and so drab. Add to that a busy work schedule and it didn't leave much to be creative about.  So, this is it for today.  For some odd reason, I still find it an interesting shot.  Of course, I am a bit weird that way.

Smiley Ball Lost

One of my biggest dilemmas on this daily photo journey of mine is deciding on that one photo that I want to share with you.  Do I choose the more traditional and obvious or do I choose the more off beat and strange?  Should I choose a photo that I know would be appealing to your eyes, such as the beautiful sunset that I photographed on my way home or should I choose something less aesthetically pleasing, something that you yourself may not ever even stop to notice?

Such was my struggle this evening.

Big Bird House

Just a crazy amount of starlings in this person's yard today.  They took flight just as I lowered my car window and I only had time to squeeze off one fast shot!

Brown Headstone

Made a quick stop today by a very old Cemetery.  I thought this stone was interesting, giving the fact that the last name is Brown and almost everything around the headstone is now brown from the winter weather.
